Daniel Kiptum and Juster Kwamesa won the 2018 Safaricom Deaf Half Marathon in Mombasa on Sunday.
Thirty-two-year-old Kiptum from Nandi covered the 21 kilometres men race in a time of 1 hour 8 minutes 96 seconds followed by his compatriot Martin Gachie who retuned 1:09.13 with Uasin Gishu’s Peter Toroitich claiming third spot in 1:13.56.
Kwamesa, a 21-year-old student of Gianchere Secondary, led three other Kisii runners to dominate the women's race after stopping the clock first in 2:15.70.
She was followed by Naibi Mushitoi, Dioniddah Okiago and Rael Nyangi who returned 2:15.74, 2:16.64 and 2:18.07 respectively. Kiptum, the 2013 and 2017 Bulgaria and Turkey Deaf Marathon winner, said it was his first time to race in Mombasa.
